Last week Dom & I celebrated our six year anniversary together, I prepared a huge feast of our favourite foods & he greeted me with a beautiful bouquet of flowers when he arrived home from work. We kept the celebrations minimal & simple because sometimes just spending time with one another is all that matters, huge gifts & spending silly amounts of money isn't really something we are into at the moment & actually I'm happier than ever living this way! Thats not to say we don't like to treat each other with gifts & fancy dinner dates in nice restaurants but we don't get to spend a lot of time together at the moment so having time together is much more appreciated.
I received this huge Sweet Cupcake* scented candle from Jewel Candle & I've been obsessed with lighting it at every available opportunity. Saying that though it's quite a rarity for me to have a chance to have a candle lit at all with being here, there & everywhere at the moment! The candle contains a piece of Jewellery which becomes visible when you've burnt it for long enough, so hopefully I'll be able to see what is hidden in my candle soon. I'll be sure to report back on what I find inside! If you'd like to purchase one of these candles for yourself or as a gift make sure you use my discount code 'loulabeth20' valid on all Jewel Candle orders! There are so many different scents available, I've got my eye on the Watermelon one next!
On Friday, Tilly & I hopped on a train to Liverpool to meet Dom after work so he didn't have to do the long drive home on his own! He has a long commute each day & I had a full day off so I thought I'd pop along & keep him company for his journey, it might seem silly but it was a nice surprise for Dom & we took the opportunity to go drive around some potential areas that we may move to! I snapped this photo of Tilly barking her head off at the other cars, I think it's hilarious she's such a sassy little thing! Tilly comes everywhere possible with me, I love that she's allowed on trains & will sit on my knee watching the world go by. She gets so excited exploring places she's never been too, her curly tail is constantly wagging & her pug hop is the cutest when she's trying to get somewhere quickly!
With moving, changing jobs, house hunting & a whole lot more going on I seem to have neglected to dedicate anytime for pampering recently. I've been sporting chipped nail polish for too long & my skin isn't looking it's best. Last night I decided to put my phone down, grab my favourite products & indulge in some beauty treatments whilst reading a magazine & munching on some percy pigs. I began by neatening up my nails - removing old nail polish & filing them into shape followed by a lick of fresh nail polish. I opted for Barry M's Gelly Polish in Dragonfruit, I think this will be the last time I reach for a pastel shade now, with the temperature dropping I'm ready for some Autumnal colours! Whilst I waited for my nails to dry I flicked through Company Magazine, I'm so sad that the October issue will be the last printed version, they're such a blogger supportive magazine & it's a shame they've had to go digital, I am looking forward to seeing what they do with the change though! Once my nails were dry I chucked in a Dragon's Egg bath bomb from Lush into a hot bath & watched it fizz around the tub. I removed my makeup with Liz Earle's Cleanse & Polish & then washed my face with REN's Cleansing Gel to ensure my skin was extra squeaky clean. After a good scrub with Soap & Glory's Scrub of Your Life I hopped out of the bath & slathered myself in Palmer's Cocoa Butter which I know my skin is thankful now as it's all silky soft & smooth feeling! I then got myself a cup of peppermint tea & had an early night, something I've not done in weeks. This morning I woke up feeling refreshed & thankful for a good nights sleep - such a great feeling to start the day with!
I've been feeling run down recently but I always felt guilty for evening taking 10 minutes to paint my nails, it sounds so silly but I felt like I should have been doing something else. It's amazing how taking an hour out of your evening to treat yourself can improve your mood & generally make you feel good about yourself. I'm going to make more of a conscious effort to dedicate an evening for pampering myself, after all I need to give myself a break every now & again!
Monochrome outfits have always been a go to style for me simply because I know the colours suit me & it's so easy to accessorise by adding a pop of colour in the form of a scarf/necklace/hair accessory/etc! I saw the pretty lace white tee on the Topshop website & automatically styled it with a pair of black skinnies, chunky black boots & a black hat - either a bobble hat or a floppy hat if I'm feeling more adventurous! I got so excited to see Topshop had added a few cable knit bobble hats, I'm forever wearing a hat in the colder months & could do with a black one to join my collection. A little home item I've had my eye on for a while is the Eiffel Tower Jewellery holder from Gifts & Pieces, blumin' love that shop, I'm only refraining from placing a huge order because I've no space to store anything whilst I live at my parents! After reading Anna's review of the YSL Touche Éclat I haven't been able to stop thinking about it! (yes I am ridiculous & have makeup on my mind 24/7) I think this will have to be a little treat to myself, theres nothing better than buying luxury makeup sometimes! Essie have got to be my all time favourite nail polish, I love the formula so much & find them so easy to apply. Believe it or not I haven't bought a nail polish in about six months, after being overwhelmed by my collection I decided to stop adding them to my stash but after realising I seem to have a huge amount of pastel shades I feel like I need to buy a few Autumn-y colours! Kate Spade has returned to my wishlist this week, this time a purse has caught my eye, it's probably a good job Kate Spade isn't the easiest to find in the UK otherwise I'd have probably snapped up this minty little number, afterall my current purse is looking very sorry for itself after years of use!
Feels like forever since I lived in London & had so many pretty places to explore... (Notting Hill/Portobello Market)
Forgot how tasty Crunchies are!
Cosy pug snuggled up
Really love this Nars lipgloss in the shade 'Tasmania' - perfect pinky nude shade!
Another London photo, Big Ben is so spectacular!
I feel like my life is insanely boring atm, with not much to report on my Instagram has been quite neglected. I've actually had one of those weeks where I've been reminiscing a lot (hence why I have so many old London photos uploaded this week!) & found myself scrolling through tagged photos on Facebook & thinking about how different my life was a few years ago! I've been house sitting for my Nana & Grandad since Wednesday as they've gone away on holiday so I've been taking advantage of having a house to myself (Tilly's here too tho!) & just enjoying the peace. Honestly I've become such a granny in the last year or so, I can't stand noises or being around loads of people so it's nice to have some me time - lots of early nights! I think the whole "liking peaceful situations" has stemmed from the fact Dom & I had our own flat together for over a year & moving back into our family homes has been a bit of a shock to the system... going from the two of us plus Tilly pug to living with 5 other people is a bit of a nightmare! Hopefully it won't be for much longer anyway, getting our own place again is a huge priority of ours & I can't wait to have my own space again! I feel like my blog is suffering a bit at the moment too as I'm struggling to get any photos taken, but things should settle down soon & I've actually set myself the challenge of blogging everyday in September... lets see if I can keep to it! I've gone off on a bit of a ramble here, oops, hope you've all had a lovely week/weekend (:
Pond's Institute is a skincare brand that has been around for about 150 years & is a firm favourite in my family with the Cold Cream Cleanser being a product that my Nana has sworn by since her teens!
Contained in a glass jar with a pretty pink lid the Cold Cream Cleanser is a little bit different from your usual makeup remover as it is actually made up of 50% moisturiser. So as well ensuring your skin is left clean & makeup free it provides plenty of hydration too! I take a small blob of it & begin massaging it onto my face in circular motions to break up the makeup, oils & any other dirt on my skin before I grab a warm flannel to remove the residue from my face. It eliminates all traces of dirt & even stubborn makeup such as mascara, so there's never any need to reach for my eye makeup remover, reducing the amount of steps in my skincare. The less time spent removing the days makeup, the quicker I can get into bed - a win win situation! The cream has a very natural & fresh scent, that helps me feel refreshed before I hop into bed. Whilst doing my research I learnt that the Cold Cream is a multifunctional product & can in fact work as a nourishing face mask, a hand cream, a brow set & a highlighter as well as being a cleanser & moisturiser. Pond's Institute Brand Ambassador Arabella Preston actually recommends finishing your makeup look by dabbing a small amount of the Cold Cream along cheekbones to create a natural, highlighted glow. I've yet to try this little makeup tip, it's not something I would have ever considered before but I'm definitely going to give it a go! Priced at under £5 it's ideal for someone like me who is living on a tight budget whilst my boyfriend & I are saving up & as it agrees with my skin I will be keeping a pot of this in my skincare stash at all times!
The next Pond's product I've been trying out is the Eye Contour Cream, a skincare item that has been missing from my life for far too long! I have to admit I've rarely paid much attention to the skin around my eyes but lack of sleep & some stressful situations has resulted in my eye area looking tired & in need of some TLC. The Eye Contour Cream is filled with nutrients & vitamins to care for the skin & reduce puffiness. I literally apply the tiniest amount, a little goes a long way with this stuff & I gently tap it into my skin with my ring finger. The gel like consistency feels very cool & revitalising, it's such a treat to apply & instantly feels like my tired eyes are awakened.
This time two years ago I had just moved into a new house ready for the start of my Second year at University. One thing I can remember hating was not having an Internet connection for about 8 weeks, mostly due to the fact we couldn't decide which deal was the best to go with! It's quite a tricky task trying to decide on internet providers who offer the best packages at an affordable student rate. Only recently have I become aware of BT's new student broadband deals, I'm almost sure a lot of time would have been saved if they had been available at the time we were hunting for broadband!
BT now have three student packages available, plenty of options to choose from depending on your budget or internet needs/requirements!

When my Dad lived in the UK he had BT internet for both his business & at home as he always had great service from them. There would often be 6 of us browsing the internet at the same time & there was never an issue with slow connections or time out problems which is something I know a lot of students have to live with when opting for cheap Internet deals. BT don't compromise on their services, the student broadband deals are great value, plus you have unlimited access to BT Wi-Fi when you're out & about!
Isn't this the prettiest blush palette you've ever laid your eyes on? I've become quite attached to this palette from Makeup Revolution recently & here's why...
The palette contains 8 shades, both matte & shimmer blushers but also includes a baked blusher & a baked highlighter. The two contour shades sitting to the left of the top row are ideal for bronzing up my skin if I need some extra colour on those warmer days. Each shade feels buttery soft & is really well pigmented, a light hand & a gentle swirl across the cheeks is all you'll need when applying. Remember you can always go back & build up the colour if you don't achieve your desired look at first! My most favoured blush for everyday use is the dolly pink shade on the top row & I find myself reaching for the peach toned one directly below it when I've gone for heavy makeup on my eyes or a bold lip colour. I also can't get over how dreamy the baked highlighter & blusher are, they're just SO pretty & look absolutely beautiful on. I did worry that the highlighter would be too bright but if it's used with care it creates such a beautiful glow. I love that I've got so many options within one palette, it makes it the perfect palette to take away with me & with it's sturdy yet sleek black packaging I can trust that it will be kept in pristine condition! One of the best things about this beauty? It's priced at a mere £6! Such an incredible price for such a lovely little palette, it seems so much more expensive! If you aren't a fan of pink toned blushers then don't worry theres a warmer shaded alternative in the form of the Hot Spice palette!
Tilly has been in the wars lately, which has been quite a stressful time for this overprotective puppy mama. She has suffered from an eye ulcer & an inflamed intestine all within two weeks, costing us just under £200 in vet bills - eek! Luckily she's back to her healthy happy self now & every penny spent was completely worth it, I definitely spend more money on my dog than I do on myself! As I've been working an awful amount of hours the past few weeks my little brother & sister have been pug sitting & Tilly has been loving it! Pugs are obsessed with people & by obsessed I really do mean OBSESSED. They are in their element meeting new people, having visitors over & are always demanding constant attention. Tilly often refuses to walk by someone in the street unless she gets a stroke from them, which can be quite embarrassing when she lies herself down on the pavement & will not get up again until the passerby has said hello to her! Such a little diva! As the weather has started cooling down we've been enjoying snuggles in our comfy clothes, yep Tilly has a little wardrobe of outfits & I'm not joking when I say her curly tail wags like mad when I dress her!
Following on from my previous home decor post today I thought I'd share some ideas I have in mind for the living room. One thing that I think I've got my heart set on is a grey squishy sofa that can be the perfect place to snuggle up on under blankets & watch movies. I want my living room to be cosy but still stylish & clean looking at the same time. I think a grey sofa & minimal decor will create the "clean" look I want but will still allow me to dress the room with pops of colour in the form of cushions, flowers & ornaments. I've got my eye on an old fashioned style telephone in a mint green shade too! It would be an absolute dream to have an original cast iron fireplace in the living room, I love the character they add to a room. I've actually come across a few houses within our budget that have beautiful fireplaces so fingers crossed the house we end up going for will have one!
Do you want me to continue this home decor ideas series?
I've tried quite a lot of different foundations over the years, but find myself coming back to the same ones more often than not. I thought I'd start of by sharing my favourites that can be picked up on the high street from Boots or Superdrug.
I'll start with Revlon, my most-loved drugstore brand when it comes to makeup bases. The newest Revlon foundation I've tried is the Revlon Nearly Naked, which happened to make an appearance in my July Favourites. The reason I like this so much is because it provides good coverage without feeling heavy on my skin... hence the name Nearly Naked! As it's been really hot in the UK I've been reaching for this more often than not, in my opinion theres nothing worse than having thick makeup on when the sun is shining! Next up is Revlon PhotoReady, a foundation that reminds me of MAC Studio Fix. PhotoReady provides me with super smooth looking skin & helps to cover up imperfections really well. The final Revlon foundation I love is the Revlon Colorstay, I use this when my skin is playing up & producing more oil than usual. It helps to matify & control any shine, so I don't need to worry about my nose or chin looking shiny throughout the day!
I've used Rimmel foundations since I was about 14 & first started to wear makeup & I've tried every one of their foundations but the one that is my all time favourite is Rimmel Match Perfection. The shade 'Light Porcelain' is a perfect match for my pale complexion & it's super cheap too, at around £7!
Bourjois 1 2 3 Perfect is another foundation that has only just joined my collection, however it's up there in my favourites because other than the shade range, I've found no faults with it so far! I prefer to apply this with a buffing brush as the colour is a teeny bit dark for my skin tone so it needs quite a bit of blending. The reason I love this foundation is because of it's correcting pigments, yellow for dark circles, mauve for dull skin tones & green for redness. I never need to use concealer around my eyes when I wear this foundation as it hides my under eye circles so well! I haven't tried any other Bourjois base products yet, I actually wanted to pick up the Happy Light Foundation a while ago but my shade wasn't in stock so I opted for the 123 perfect instead.
Pretty sure I could eat fajitas all day, everyday!
The prettiest blush palette arrived for me this week, a lovely surprise to come home to (:
Best thing everrrrr putting some snuggly slippers on when you're feet ache so much!
Sunflowers brightening up the dull afternoon of rain we experienced yesterday!
Silly billy sitting like a mini Human in the car haha she does make me laugh!
This week has been quite a boring one, I've been in work every day so I've not had much of a life! My days have followed this pattern - "eat sleep work repeat", such an exciting life for a 22 year old! I'm actually off to work in a mo but I wanted to log on & say a quick hello, I really love blogging & it's nice to take some time out to type up a little post. I've actually managed to blog more than I expected recently, I've been focusing on staying busy & it's really given me the motivation to get up & do things rather than being lazy & wasting my time. It's not easy working full time, trying to blog, looking after Tilly & trying to spend time with Dom - it's a struggle fitting it all in but I've not felt this happy in a long time. I just don't have the chance to think about negative things anymore & it's such a Isn't weird how changing one small aspect of the way you look at life can make you feel a million times better!?
I say this on almost every monthly favourites posts, but I genuinely can't believe another month has passed by. When I was younger I never used to understand it when adults said time goes too fast, but it really does! We've been living back in the North for a month now but it literally feels like we've only been here 2 minutes!
Let's get onto my favourite products from the month of July... I feel like I tried SO many different thing & I've found some products that I know I'll be sticking with for a long time!
The first product I'm going to mention is Palmer's Cocoa Butter, which I've actually used for years but rekindled my love for it recently. Cocoa Butter has always been one of my go to moisturisers but then Soap & Glory came along & Cocoa Butter kinda got forgotten about. I found a stash of it when I was packing up the flat & decided to use it again. I'm one of those people that HAS to moisturise after my shower, even though it's effort my skin gets mad at me if I don't!
The second product I've loved using is the Revlon Nearly Naked Foundation, I'm actually annoyed I haven't tried it sooner! My Sister let me try some of it & I've been wearing it everyday since. The reason why I love it so much is because it provides high coverage without feeling heavy or thick on my skin. It seems to melt into my skin when I apply it, hiding my imperfections & under eye circles but doesn't make me look like I'm caked in makeup. It's a decent price too at less than £9 for a bottle!
Up next is the L'Oreal Eye & Lip Makeup Remover which has been a lifesaver on days when I've worn heavy eye makeup. It feels more like a gel consistency rather than a liquid & removes makeup in a few seconds. It doesn't sting or irritate my eyes, theres nothing worse than removing makeup with a product that leaves your eyes feeling sore.
Slightly embarassing to admit this but I love Britney Spears Fantasy perfume! It's a really sweet scent & lasts all day, I always get asked what I'm wearing if I have it on & it's also dead cheap. I know a lot of people think it's a teenager's perfume but oh well haha!
Nars Lipgloss in Tasmania* is probably the prettiest lip product I own, it's a warm toned pink that I find suitable for everyday wear. Usually lip glosses annoy me because they're so sticky & my hair gets stuck to my lips but it's not the case with this one. It still leaves a glossy shine to my lips but isn't too gloopy which means I can wear it without having to worry about it ending up all over my face (I've had bad experience with lipgloss being swiped all over my cheeks after my hair stuck to it!! awks)
Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion is another product that has made it's way back into my life after years of me going without it. This is the free sample that came with Glamour Magazine but I definitely want to pick up the full sized version of it when I get paid. I used this as a teenager as my skin used to be terribly dry, I don't really suffer from that anymore but I love velvety soft feeling it gives to my skin & my makeup always applies amazingly well on top of it.
My final favourite of the month is Pond's Eye Contour Cream* which is the newest addition to my skincare routine. I've been using it both morning & night to soothe my puffy eyes & to keep the skin smooth & hydrated. It feels so cool & refreshing around my eye area, it's such a treat to apply it in an evening after I've taken off all my makeup!
What have been your favourite products this month?
